On September 27, 2025, the Valleyview & Districts Agricultural Society hosted the first-ever Crocus Hill Cookoff & Fair to celebrate the start of construction on the Greenview Regional AgriPlex. The day featured a raising the roof ceremony, a fundraising rib cookoff dinner, and plenty of family fun with a bench show, gymkhana events, and old-fashioned games like tug-of-war, sack races, and donut bobbing.
It was a day filled with community spirit, laughter, and support for agriculture in our region!
The Valleyview & District Agricultural Society (Ag. Society) is currently constructing a new Agri-Plex in Valleyview. Since it is a non-profit organization without a charitable status, the Ag. Society Board is looking to set up a fund for the capital project through the Northwestern Alberta Foundation (NAF) to allow donors to receive charitable receipts. Greenview Council supports the Ag. Society’s fundraising campaign by entering into an Intermediary Partnership that will allow residents and businesses to receive charitable receipts for supporting the community project.
The Valleyview & District Agricultural Society is a non-profit organization that has been active for 56 years and is an integral part of the community, providing a facility for recreational and educational events. The Society’s current facility is experiencing significant issues and has been deemed at the end of its projected lifespan by the current Ag Society Board. To assist with this large-scale endeavor, Council directed Administration to enter into an agreement with the Valleyview and District Agricultural Society in the amount of $4,000,000.00 for the construction of a new Agricultural Society Facility, with funds to come from the 2024 unrestricted reserves.
Over 40 years ago the Valleyview & Districts Agricultural Society and Red Willow Roping club worked together to build the Jack Williamson Ag plex for our community.
It was great to have some of those old timers share in receiving the grant awarded to the Ag Society for a new building!
